WHAT IS DECASILVER?
decasilver is Decadance Co’s movement programme for seniors in Singapore. In this 12 - 16 week programme, we visit senior activity centres and assisted living homes to bring the benefits of contemporary dance to positive ageing. Created in 2019, this successful programme has been repeatedly fine-tuned and conducted across over 10 senior centres in Singapore, including Lions Befrienders, Care Corner Seniors Services, APEX Day Rehabilitation for Elderly, St Luke’s ElderCare and Geylang East Home for the Aged.
Decasilver is a finalist in both "Community Social Engagement" and "Active Aging Wellness Programme" at the 12th Eldercare Innovation Awards 2024.
We are able to tweak our program to the needs of our senior care partners (such as ad-hoc sessions) and have also conducted workshops for aspiring dance and movement therapists. Speak to us for a full programme breakdown!
holistic wellness through movement
Our programme heightens kinetic and cognitive wellbeing in seniors through the discipline of a performative use of movement, prop manipulation and dance imageries. This group participatory activity enables and promotes social interaction and responsiveness, allowing mood improvements and communal wellbeing. The programme uses a carefully curated blend of dance, music, tactile props, rhythm, breathing, vocal and facial exercises to fully engage the seniors.

National Arts Council’s Silver Arts Residency 2021 Decadance Co x Lions Befrienders
April 2021 - November 2021 (workshops) November 2021 - January 2022 (exhibition period)
neighb.OURS explores the concepts of a neighbour, physically and emotionally, and the self in the community. After months of workshops with our decasilver team, our seniors have choreographed embodied gestures to explore these ideas of kinship, place, the ageing body and identity. This residency results in a site-specific dance-film with visual art installations around their neighbourhood.
neighb.OURS project exhibition will be open for public viewing in November 2021 and is extended until January 31 2022 as a part of Singapore Art Week 2022.
DECASILVER ON DIGITAL
decasilver on digital allows you to bring the decasilver experience home with you! This series increases accessibility to the programme to encourage seniors to keep active and maintain their wellbeing at one’s convenience. By being a digital programme hosted on Youtube, the episodes are incredibly accessible for seniors who are home-bound, have limited or no resources to physically access the Senior Activity Centres (SACs) during heightened restrictions.
