PROGRAMME
WELCOME2DECA
One morning in Bangkok, the DECA team shared personal stories of our childhood over coffee in a stylish cafe called Slabtitude. We poured our memories and reflections into a cauldron and the further we looked back, the fiercer the potion bubbled. And that’s where the themes and chapters for CREASED started gaining clarity.
For this show, we wanted to find solace in textured relationships, where we appreciate the choppy waves and howling winds, despite hating the bitter taste of it all, knowing that it plays a huge part in forming our character today. Gender biases, troubled marriages, hard love habits that are passed down from generations, all hung like wrinkled linen shirts in our wardrobes, swearing that its a piece of garment we will never wear again. Except, its the one piece we never choose to dispose, unknowingly leaving it for our future generation.
I hope everyone sees something, or maybe even connect to this work in one personal way or another, and that it offers a multitude of emotions as we witness some part of our lives being played out on stage. Because what use is a piece of art, if it doesn’t tuck any heartstrings, if it doesn’t make a sound? Even the smallest whisper might echo for a long time.
On behalf of the entire CREASED team, thank you for choosing to be here with us.
Keep dancing,
Edwin
SYNOPSIS
As we journey through life, we often experience a shift in our perspectives on acceptance, culture, tradition, and the values that define us as individuals in society. "Creased" offers a contemporary exploration of generational understanding, seeking to bridge the gap between family members, neighbours, and even strangers.
Envisioned as a beautiful tapestry of human connection, "Creased" brings together three generations of dancers: our enthusiastic seniors from the decasilver program, our vibrant and energetic youngsters from the decak!ds program, and our passionate dancers from decastudios. This performance is a collaborative effort, a creation shaped by everyone, and intended for everyone.
